The Poker phenomenon attracts millions of players and spectators across the globe, both in real tournaments and, of course, on the Net.
History
Like everything in history, the origins of Poker are currently under debate as new historians claim that the game has Persian, rather than German roots. Regardless, we know of a version existing around the 15th century in Germany, called Pochspiel. Many experts believe that the name either came from Poca (Pocket in Gallic), or Poque (French).
Poker today
Today, Poker is a worldwide craze, with millions of people from around the globe tuning in to watch the masters at work. This is due, many claim, to the high level of numeric intelligence, bluffing and strategy that the game demands, which spectators which keep spectators glued to their seats.
Rules
- To begin with, each player receives five cards from the dealer
- After this, players may request more cards and place bets for the next round
- If the other competitors want, they can meet the bet or even raise the bet
- The dealer then calls the players hands and they must show what they have
- The player who holds the most valuable hand wins
