Baccarat
Also known as Punto Blanco, Baccarat is one of the oldest card games in the world. Find out what it's all about.
History
Created in Italy and brought to France in the 15th century during the reign of Charles VII, Baccarat is one of the oldest card games still popular in the modern world. The word itself means "zero" in French and Italian.
Bets
Due to its simplicity, Baccarat is an excellent game for those just beginning to play cards. You can make two different types of bets in Baccarat:
- Bet on the player
- Bet on the banker
Game-play
- Cards are dealt first to the player and then the banker, all face down
- Players receive two cards each
- The cards are then turned over
- The croupier then adds up the cards and calls the total
- The player or banker can take another card or hold, depending on the outcome
- The highest total wins
Cards value
- Cards 2-9 are worth face value
- Cards 10, J, Q and K are all worth 10
- Aces are worth 1
- If the total of your hand exceeds 10, then a double digit card is turned into a single digit by subtracting 10. For example, 8+6=14. So this hand would be worth 4
